The Florida Medical Association Foundation is the FMA’s philanthropic vehicle for supporting medical education, professional development and disaster relief efforts. Funded by the generous donations of physicians, corporations and other donors, the Foundation provides medical school scholarships and helps fund programs designed to improve the patient-physician relationship. The Foundation’s mentorship program awards stipends for medical students, residents and fellows to attend FMA and county medical society meetings. Mentorship scholarships are awarded to fourth-year medical students or senior residents/fellows who wish to pursue training in areas not typically covered in medical school curricula.

  • Foundation Facts

    • Scholarships: In the past decade, the FMA Foundation has awarded more than $402,000 to help medical students complete their studies. Each year, the Foundation awards a scholarship to one student at each of Florida’s medical schools.
    • Disaster Relief: The Foundation’s disaster relief fund was established in 1993 to provide medical care to Hurricane Andrew victims. Since then, the fund has been used to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina and for ongoing medical mission trips to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
    • Leadership Development: The Foundation’s 2015 project will train 50 young physicians over the next five years to become leaders of the medical profession. This program will provide participants with training in business, organized medicine, medical staffs and public policy.
    • Museum of Medicine and Public Health: The original State Board of Health headquarters in Jacksonville will house the future Florida Museum of Medicine and Public Health. This museum will educate Floridians about the importance of public health and medical services through artifacts, memorabilia, and other interactive tools.
