The FMA's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal information to the Association and its members in areas such as medical records, subpoena compliance, balance billing and advertising. The OGC keeps an active watch on issues from the Board of Medicine, the Department of Health, the Agency for Health Care Administration and on rules and regulations that emanate from Washington that have an impact on our members. The OGC fields complaints from members regarding managed care, Workers’ Compensation, PIP and other insurance company practices. In addition, the OGC is extensively involved in the legislative process and works in cooperation with the Governmental Affairs Department to ensure that legislation coming out of Tallahassee is in the best interests of the physicians of Florida.

The FMA is not permitted by law to render legal advice to individual members, and urges physicians to retain qualified counsel to provide guidance through the legal maze that is an unfortunate reality of today's medical practice.
