2026-2027 Board of Governors

The FMA Board of Governors governs legally with an emphasis on external vision rather than internal preoccupation; diversity of thought; strategic leadership; collective rather than individual decisions; and future focus as opposed to past or present reactivity.

The Board develops a sense of group responsibility in which they initiate policy, and the Board is held accountable for its actions. They lead the organization in creating broad written policies that reflect the Board’s values and enforce upon itself whatever discipline is required to govern with excellence. Through all this, the Board will instill a sense of commitment and responsibility to the work associated with creating future policies.
FMA President and Chair: Alma Littles, MD

Florida State University College of Medicine Dean Alma Littles, MD, was installed as 150th Florida Medical Association President on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the FMA Annual Meeting in Orlando. Dr. Littles is a Board-certified family medicine physician who played a key role in the planning and opening of FSU’s medical school in the early 2000s. She previously served as the medical school's interim dean, senior associate dean for medical education and academic affairs, and founding chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health.

A native of Quincy, Fla., Dr. Littles earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (now Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare), eventually serving as chief resident. After residency, she opened a private practice in Quincy and went on to become director of TMH’s Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Littles is a Past President of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and the Capital Medical Society, and her many accolades include the 2019 Elizabeth Blackwell Medal from the American Medical Women’s Association. She and her husband, Gentle Littles III, have one son, Gentle Germaine Littles.
