February 2022 Florida Mandatory CME Topics

This CME event provides the mandatory topics for license renewal in Florida before the DO deadline of March 31, 2022. MDs can take advantage of this opportunity to get ahead on fulfilling their CME requirements for license renewal deadlines in 2023 and 2024.

9:00 - 11:00 am, Domestic Violence - 2 credits: Fulfill the renewal requirement (two credits every six years) for allopathic and osteopathic physicians licensed in Florida. The content is intended to remind physicians that sometimes the little things they do in everyday practice, like detailed documentation and simple screenings, can make a huge difference in the lives of patients.

11:15 am - 12:15 pm, Florida Laws, Rules and Ethics for Healthcare Professionals - 1 credit: Required for osteopathic physicians licensed in Florida, this course is intended to demystify Florida’s physician licensure and regulatory process and to highlight the top regulatory and ethical issues currently affecting Florida-licensed physicians. Allopathic physicians will be awarded general credit and can use it toward their general requirements.

12:45 - 2:45 pm, Prevention of Medical Errors - 2 credits: This mandatory course includes the required content required by the Florida Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine for prevention of medical errors, including root cause analysis, error reduction and prevention, patient safety, and the most commonly misdiagnosed conditions identified by the two Boards.

3:00- 5:00 pm, Controlled Substance Prescribing - 2 credits: CME requirement for Florida-licensed MDs and DOs who are registered with the DEA and authorized to prescribe controlled substances. The course will highlight updated and new prescribing laws and rules; emphasize the current standards for prescribing controlled substances, particularly opiates; review alternatives to opiates, including nonpharmacological options; and address the risks of opioid addiction following all stages of treatment in the management of acute pain.

5:15 - 6:15 pm, HIV/AIDS in Florida - 1 credits: One time CME requirement for Florida-licensed MDs and DOs who are renewing their Florida license for the first time. This course will address modes of transmission, infection control procedures, epidemiology, clinical management, prevention, and current Florida laws and protocols related to testing, treatment, reporting and partner notification. MDs and DOs who have already renewed their Florida license at least once will be awarded general credit and can use it toward their general requirements.
