2024-2025 Board of Governors

The FMA Board of Governors governs legally with an emphasis on external vision rather than internal preoccupation; diversity of thought; strategic leadership; collective rather than individual decisions; and future focus as opposed to past or present reactivity.

The Board develops a sense of group responsibility in which they initiate policy, and the Board is held accountable for its actions. They lead the organization in creating broad written policies that reflect the Board’s values and enforce upon itself whatever discipline is required to govern with excellence. Through all this, the Board will instill a sense of commitment and responsibility to the work associated with creating future policies.

FMA President and Chair: Lisa Cosgrove, MD, FAAP

Lisa A. Cosgrove, MD, FAAP, of Jacksonville is the 148th President of the Florida Medical Association. She is a Board-certified pediatrician who retired in 2019 after four decades of practicing medicine, and she remains an influential advocate for Florida’s physicians and their patients.

Dr. Cosgrove is a native of Little Rock, Ark., and a third-generation physician. Her father, Kingsley Cosgrove Jr., MD, was an ophthalmologist, and her grandfather Kingsley Cosgrove Sr., MD, practiced as an eye, ear, nose and throat physician. Dr. Cosgrove began her healthcare career as a nurse in the pediatric/neonatal intensive care unit at Miami Children’s Hospital. She earned her medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine and completed residency training in pediatrics at Emory University.

After practicing in Little Rock for five years, Dr. Moved to Florida in 1993 and joined Atlantic Coast Pediatrics, a private practice on Merritt Island. In the years since, she has served organized medicine in many leadership roles. Prior to becoming FMA President-Elect in 2023, Dr. Cosgrove was FMA Vice President (2022-2023) and FMA Secretary (2019-2022). She also served as Specialty Society Representative to the FMA Board of Governors and is a longtime FMA PAC member.

Additionally, Dr. Cosgrove is a Past President of the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Past President of the Brevard County Medical Society, and former District X Chair for the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is the mother of three adult sons, Kingsley, Chason, and Daniel, and a grandmother of four.
