The Governing Council provides for and solicits greater medical student involvement in the affairs of the county medical societies, the Florida Medical Association, and the American Medical Association through the non-partisan collaboration of every Florida medical school.

MSS Delegates to the House of Delegates
Each medical school chapter elects one student Delegate to the Florida Medical Association House of Delegates. The 2026 House of Delegates will take place at the Annual Meeting being held at the Hilton Orlando July 31-August 2.

Councils and Committees
The FMA President appoints physicians and medical students to select councils and committees annually. Students who are appointed to a council or committee are invited to attend meetings and provide input.

2025 Gerold L. Schiebler, MD Advocate for Medical Students Award for Outstanding Service to the Medical Student Section
The Gerold L. Schiebler, MD Advocate for Medical Students Award honors the outstanding service and advocacy of an FMA physician on behalf of the FMA Medical Student Section.

The recipient of this award will receive the honor of being recognized by the FMA MSS Governing Council and their peers at the FMA House of Delegates Opening Session during the FMA Annual Meeting this summer in Orlando.

2025 Sanford A. Mullen, MD Award for Outstanding Community Service  by a Medical Student
The Sanford A. Mullen Award was established to recognize medical students who go beyond the classroom or hospital and exhibit outstanding community service. Any FMA medical student member who is enrolled in a Florida medical school and demonstrates outstanding community service beyond the requirements of the classroom or hospital is eligible for this award.
